ALHS Earns High Recognition from U.S. News & World Report

Avon Lake High School was recently awarded with the esteemed recognition by U.S. News and World Report for being among the best high schools in the State of Ohio and beyond. Earning a #1 ranking in Lorain County, Avon Lake High School also achieved a #10 ranking in the Cleveland Metropolitan area, #36 in the State of Ohio, and #899 in the entire country. By earning a national ranking in the top 40%, Avon Lake High School achieved status as a U.S. News Best High School. Such a high level of merit and recognition for Avon Lake High School demonstrates the talent and hard work of our students, our families, and the teachers and staff at not only the High School, but all buildings in our entire district. Avon Lake City Schools Begins 2026-2027 School Year

The 2026-2027 school year has officially kicked off in the Avon Lake City Schools, as students returned to the halls and classrooms of their buildings earlier this week. Tuesday, August 18th served as the district’s official first day of school, and at all grade levels, our community’s children returned to warm welcomes from our dedicated teachers and staff. Superintendent Joelle M. Magyar visited buildings throughout the district, said hello, and encouraged students and staff to have a great school year. Avon Lake City Schools encourages parents to get involved with a PTA at your child’s school, to play an even more active role in their educational experience. Thank you to the families of our students for making the start the 2026-2027 school year smooth and successful. All the best to our entire school family for a great school year. Aubrey Kozar Achieves Milestone Swim Training Experience

Avon Lake High School junior Aubrey Kozar has achieved an outstanding swim experience this summer, spending 11 days in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the Team USA Emerging Camp. This Elite camp was an invitation only for swimmers who have achieved a National Emerging Team Standard in swimming and was funded by the US Olympic & Paralympic Team & their sponsors. Aubrey earned the opportunity to work and train with the best Paralympians and Paralympic Coaches in the country. She also had USADA training, Media Training, Kitchen/Meal prep classes, and Sports Psych Training during her visit. Aubrey heads to the 2026 Para Pan Pacific championship which is a Long Course International Competition in Walnut, California, at the end of this month. This past winter, Aubrey successfully defended both of her state championships in the 50 free and 100 back, attaining the highest accomplishments representing ALHS, and in these personal endeavors. Way to go, Aubrey! All the best in California at the end of August!
2026-2027 School Year Starts August 18th

The start of the 2026-2027 school year is right around the corner! Students in grades 1st through 12th will return on Tuesday, August 18th, and students in Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten return on Thursday, August 20th. Please be on the lookout for important information and newsletters coming from your principals in the near future, and use the website for more information. Want to take advantage of school supply sales this summer? Find your PreK-8 school supply lists on our website here. There is no generic school supply list at the high school. Teachers of each of your child's classes will distribute a list of expectations and supplies needed for that class on the first day of school.
